George Blanda played in the NFL for 26 years, longer than anyone ever has and probably ever will. Passing for over 26,000 yards and kicking for over 940 extra points, it’s easy to see why he waltzed into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1981. Offered in this lot is (2) unique trophies that were presented and awarded directly to Blanda in 1970. First a 1970 P.C. Family Club Pro Athlete of the Year trophy (30” high) with the inscription “P.C. Family Club - George Blanda - Pro Athlete of the Year - 1970” on the front plate. The trophy features four tall pillars and six mini football player accoutrements. EX/NM condition and showing slight signs of age. Also offered is a 1970 REA Expressman of the Year trophy (25” high) with the inscription “George Blanda - REA Expressman of the Year -1970” on the front brass plate. Exhibits a beautiful figure at the top and remains in about NM condition. LOA from the Blanda Collection.
REA (Railway Express Agency) trophy weighs 10.5 lbs; 8" x 9" x 4.5" wooden base; 25.5" tall overall. (Side handle piece has broken off but is included. It can be professionally welded.) Penn Family Club trophy stands 32" tall and weighs 10 lbs.with 9 x 9 wood base.
