Standing 21 1/2” tall, the 1970 AFC Most Valuable Player Award features an 18” pure bronze football player, helmet in hand, in a defiant pose that echoes the determination and resilience of its recipient: George Blanda. That season the 43 year-old quarterback/placekicker single-handedly led the Raiders to victory four straight times with last-second touchdown passes and field goals. His clutch heroics propelled Oakland into the championship game and it was only natural that Blanda was named that seasons MVP. The black marble base measures 10” x 10 1/2” and has an engraved plaque on the front which reads “LONG ISLAND ATHLETIC CLUB NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE AMERICAN CONFERENCE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER 1970 GEORGE BLANDA OAKLAND RAIDERS”. The bottom has the original Balfour label affixed to the felt. With only minimal surface wear, this is an impressive figural trophy commemorating one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the game. LOA from the Blanda Family.
