Nice collaboration of Houston Oilers photos and prints (some autographed) from the personal collection of the team's star quarterback/placekicker of the early to mid 1960's, the great George Blanda. He was the 1961 AFL MVP and set many early passing records during his 1960-66 tenure in Houston, where his career was revitalized after nearly retiring in 1959. Little did he know he'd play another 16 seasons! This lot includes the following.
Five (5) Houston Oilers unsigned color team photos with all players identified in bottom caption: 1960 AFL Champions - 9.5" by 6" on hard backing; 1962 Eastern Division Champions - 13" by 8" on large matte; 1963 - 15.5" by 7" and framed to 22.5" by 18.5"; 1964 - 14" by 8.5" and framed to 22.5" by 18.5"; 1966 - 17" by 8" on large matte.
Three (3) single-signed 8" by 10" black and white action shots of Blanda's Houston Oilers playmakers, including: running back and '59 Heisman winner Billy Cannon (No. "20" inscribed); wide receiver Bill Groman (No. "89" inscribed); and 5-time All-Star wide receiver Charles Hennigan. All signatures in 8-9/10 blue ballpoint.
1960 "Original Oilers" 8x10 b&w photo including Blanda signed by Charley Tolar in 7/10 blue ballpoint.
Five (5) unsigned 8x10 b&w photos including a nice Oilers portrait of George Blanda plus on-field image receiving gift from a fan. Other three from a former banquet or event. None appear to be Type 1, but all are professional studio prints that could fall in the Type II-IV category.
Last but certainly not least of this group is a nice 20" by 24" limited edition (351/1100) Houston Oilers All-Time Greats lithograph print signed by 26 including original members Jim Norton, Bill Groman, Don Floyd, Charley Tolar, Al Jamison, George Belotti, Tony Barfield, Mike Dukes, Dave Smith, Julian Spence, Ken Hall, George Shirkey, Charlie Kendall, Mark Johnston, Hogan Wharton, Bob Talamini and Al Witcher and others. All signatures come in 8-9/10 black marker. Blanda is pictured but did not sign it.
