Following the 2015-16 season, Dwight Howard signed a three-year contract with the Atlanta Hawks and returned to his hometown where he starred at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy. The former #1 pick of the 2004 Draft, right out of high school, Howard has joined his fourth NBA team and started his Hawks career with a bang, pulling down 19 rebounds in the 2016-17 opener. Presented here is Howard’s game-worn jersey from Atlanta’s 110-106 road victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Nov. 8, 2016. Dwight scored seven points and grabbed 17 boards and three blocks, another stellar performance by the big man whose points (14.2), rebounds (13.0) and FG% are all up from last year with the Rockets. The Hawks typically wear white at home, but the Cavs went with their black alternate uniforms that night at the Q.
The white mesh shirt patterned with light gray triangles comes in size XL with proper Adidas manufacturer's tagging and a Length +2" flag tag on the left front tail. Adjacent to the manufacturer's tag is the unique NBA Authentics tag coded "AHA 03348." Inside the left inseam is the washing instructions and "05/16" date tag. The front of the jersey reads "ATLANTA" in red tackle twill letters outlined in lime green, sewn directly onto the jersey in semi-circular fashion. Howard’s uniform number "8" appears front and back in the same color format. (He switched from #12 to #8 to honor his mother who had seven miscarriages before giving birth to him.) The upper back has "HOWARD" in red tackle twill with the official NBA embroidered patch just above. Howard has signed the jersey in black marker on the back number. The shirt displays excellent wear and was obtained through an impeccable NBA source (must remain anonymous) who attests to Howard signing the sweaty shirt in person after the game.
