At the towering height of 7’ 4”, three-time college Player of the Year Ralph Sampson looked like he was destined for a Hall of Fame career. After being the first selection of the 1983 draft, Sampson cruised to the 1983 Rookie of the Year and averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game for three years. Unfortunately injuries began taking their toll, and by the time he donned this jersey in Sacramento he was a reserve/role player.
The Sand Knit home white jersey has “Kings” across the chest and Sampson’s number “50” below in blue and red tackle twill. The neck and sleeve openings are trimmed in red, white and blue ribbing and the sides are also trimmed with the same material. Size “46” Sand Knit labels are sewn in the lower left front tail with “88” and “3”LB” chain stitched in black on white strip tags. A blank white strip tag is affixed above the chain stitched ones. The jersey has a horizontal tear approximately 7” in length beneath the labels. The back has “50” in blue and red tackle twill above a replacement white name plate with “SAMPSON” on blue appliqué letters. Getty 130280262 and 589730464 for style match. The jersey exhibits overall toning from age along with some staining and perspiration marks. The lettering exhibits some puckering from laundering. Sampson has signed the front of the jersey in black marker (6/10) adding his number “50”.
