The 1982 NCAA Championship between the North Carolina Tar Heels and Georgetown Hoyas was one of the greatest National Championship games ever played in any sport. It featured two Hall of Fame coaches--Dean Smith vs. John Thompson--and five future NBA All-Stars. It is still the only NCAA title game to feature three members of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players list" Michael Jordan and James Worthy for UNC and Patrick Ewing from GU. The game came down to the final seconds when Coach Smith dialed up a play for Jordan, just a Freshman, who calmly sank the go-head jumper with 17 seconds remaining. On the ensuing possession for Georgetown, guard Fred Brown mistook Worthy for his teammate and threw the ball right to him to seal the game for the Tar Heels. Georgetown would taste sweet victory two years later when they won the 1984 National Title.

Presented here is a 1982 NCAA Finalist presented to the Hoyas' assistant coach Norm Washington, who served in that capacity 1980-82. The size 10.5 ring made of a non-gold, solid Celestrium like metal has a large blue stone face atop "NCAA FINALIST" with two similar looking shanks of a basketball, two laurel branches and three stars--one side marked "19" and the other "82." Inside the band is engraved with the recipient's name "NORMAN WASHINGTON" and a symbol for either the maker or metal composition. Ring shows moderate wear but remains in very fine overall condition. Great piece of jewelry to commemorate an instant classic!
