Offered here is Zelmo Beaty's Helms Hall of Fame Achievement Award from the personal collection of the Basketball Hall of Fame center. Beaty played 12 seasons in the NBA and ABA, averaging 17.1 Points Per Game and 10.9 Rebounds. The 3rd pick overall in the 1962 NBA draft he played 7 years with the St. Louis/Atlanta Hawks(NBA) and 4 with the Utah Stars (ABA), before finishing off with the Los Angeles Lakers(NBA) for one final season. In 1970-71 he led the Utah Stars to the ABA Championship averaging 23.2 PPG and 414.6 RPG.
The lovely certificate award measures 15" by 17 1/2" and comes on a laminated wooden display board around 1/2" thick. The gorgeous gold-colored Helms Athletic Foundation medallion stamp is located on the lower left next to the ten esteemed Helms Hall Board members, with the facsimile signature of Chairman Paul H. Helms Jr. (co-founder's son) at the lower right. The award honors "Zelmo Beaty - for Noteworthy Achievement - National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics - Basketball." Founded in 1936, the Helms Hall of Fame was the first recognized athletic Hall of Fame and the precursor to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which had its first induction ceremony in 1939. The award comes in outstanding condition with only a minor scratch on the upper left.
