In the late 1980’s, Larry Bird, despite an aching back and nagging bone spurs in his heels, was still a force to be reckoned with for the Boston Celtics. In 1987-88, in fact, he had the best statistical season of his career by averaging 29.9 points, 9.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game while shooting his way into the 50-40-90 club for an unprecedented second straight season. A year later, he played in just six regular-season games as he underwent back surgery to remove the bone spurs. The following season he bounced back to average 24.3 points per game, which just happened to match his overall career average. This lot features a pair of Bird’s game-worn and dual-signed Converse Weapon sneakers from that time period.

The black-and-white leather shoes show moderate usage with some noticeable cracking around the toes and mid-section. Though neither shoe sports a size tag, they appear to be in Bird’s standard size 13. Customized orthotics and extra heel padding are included inside each shoe, further cementing to their authenticity to Bird's feet. The original shoelaces remain intact and the pair comes very structurally sound inside and out with no signs of deterioration whatsoever. Bird himself has signed both shoes in 7-8/10 blue fine-point pen on the upper ankle panels. Converse Weapons are among the most highly-coveted gamers in the hobby, and this pair is a magnificent example from one of the best to ever lace 'em up.

Autographs pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
