Jackie Joyner Kersee, now retired, was one of the greatest athletes in U.S. women's track and field history. She was ranked among the all-time greatest athletes in both the heptathlon as well as the long jump. She won three gold, one silver and two bronze medals in those two events at four different Summer Olympic Games. Two of her gold medals were won at the 1988 Seoul Games.

This lot features Joyner Kersee's dual-signed Nike track spikes worn in competition during the 1990's. The white, size 8 1/2 suede shoes have her initials "JJK" embroidered in purple near the heels with a purple Nike swoosh on each side. She has signed both shoes "Jackie J. Kersee" in black marker and the pair's original red laces are still intact. The left shoe still has all seven spikes included, while the right shoe has just four of the seven remaining. They exhibit excellent use from the sprinting, hurdling and leaping that Jackie out them through. Our consignor received them directly from Jackie in the late 1990's. Photo research indicates these could have been worn at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics or at the 1998 Goodwill Games. Autographs pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

Provenance: This lot originates from a gentleman who has enjoyed a long and successful career in Hollywood as an agent for many well-known athletes and entertainers. His professional and personal network enabled him to amass a significant collection of memorabilia, nearly all of which was given to him directly from the athletes and entertainers themselves. All of these items are being introduced to the marketplace here for the first time. While our consignor remains anonymous, SCP Auctions will issue an LOA for each game used item attesting to its player-direct provenance.
