Recently retired lightweight boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. won 15 world titles and the lineal championship in four different weight classes during his illustrious career. Now working as a boxing promoter, Mayweather hung up his boxing gloves in 2015 after compiling an undefeated, 49-0 record. He is a two-time winner of The Ring magazine's "Fighter of the Year" award (1998 and '07), a three-time winner of the BWAA Fighter of the Year award (2007, '13 and '15) and a six-time winner of the "Best Fighter" ESPY Award. This lot focuses on one of Mayweather's earlier title defenses.

The WBC Super Featherweight Championship was on the line and as the reigning champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. showed up to keep his unbeaten streak intact against upstart Mexican boxer Jesus Chavez, a.k.a. "El Matador." The fight, which took place on Nov. 10, 2001, in San Francisco, marked Mayweather's eighth and final 130-pound WBC title defense. From the opening round, the champ was dominant. He continually painted Chavez with shots from all angles and piled up a lopsided lead on each of the judges' scorecards until Chavez's corner finally threw in the towel after the ninth round. Officially, the victory was a 9th-round TKO.

Offered here are the very fight-worn trunks that Mayweather wore on that memorable night at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. The red, white and blue silk Grant trunks show exceptional wear and include a pair of embroidered U.S. flag patches worked into its design paying tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It also boasts an oversized, embroidered "WBC World Champion" circular patch that rests across the left thigh area. The photo-matched pair brings back memories of one of Mayweather's most dominant title defenses and have been signed in black marker by the unbeaten boxer with 26 knockouts to his credit. His signature is crisp and ranks a strong 8-9/10 in our book. Autograph is pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

Provenance: This lot originates from a gentleman who has enjoyed a long and successful career in Hollywood as an agent for many well-known athletes and entertainers. His professional and personal network enabled him to amass a significant collection of memorabilia, nearly all of which was given to him directly from the athletes and entertainers themselves. All of these items are being introduced to the marketplace here for the first time. While our consignor remains anonymous, SCP Auctions will issue an LOA for each game used item attesting to its player-direct provenance.
