Few players ever arrived in the NBA with more outsized expectations on their shoulders, but the 7-1, 325-lb. Shaquille O'Neal had the size and the strength to handle it. And so did his shoes. These Reebok 'Shaq Reflection' signature model sneakers date to his second season with the Los Angeles Lakers after four seasons with the Orlando Magic who selected him with the first overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft. O'Neal's individual accolades include the 1992–93 Rookie of the Year, 1999–2000 MVP, 15 All-Star game selections, three All-Star Game MVP awards, three Finals MVP awards, two scoring titles, 14 All-NBA team selections, and three NBA All-Defensive Team selections. He is one of only three players to win NBA MVP, All-Star Game MVP and Finals MVP awards in the same year (2000). His induction into the Hall of Fame earlier this year is the cherry on top of an epic career.
These gargantuan, size-22 (!) sneakers are more than likely the largest pair of shoes you'll ever see in your lifetime. Made by Reebok, the sneaks measure 16" long and 9" high with 5"-wide soles. Each custom-made clodhopper is signed on the ankle by Shaq in black Sharpie. The massive shoes show considerable game use but remain with all elements intact and largely as-issued. The Bunyanesque pair represents both an amazing display piece for the enthusiastic hardcourt collector and a true testament to The Diesel's imposting size and presence. Provenance: This lot originates from a gentleman who has enjoyed a long and successful career in Hollywood as an agent for many well-known athletes and entertainers. His professional and personal network enabled him to amass a significant collection of memorabilia, nearly all of which was given to him directly from the athletes and entertainers themselves. All of these items are being introduced to the marketplace here for the first time.
