The marvelous basketball career of Dan Issel came to an end on May 22, 1985 in the Western Conference Finals against the eventual NBA Champion L.A. Lakers. Presented here is one shoe of the pair Issel wore during his final NBA game with outstanding provenance. The Lakers blew away the Denver Nuggets in Game 5 by a whopping score of 153-109 to close out the series as Showtime basketball was in full effect. Six Lakers scored in double figures and Magic dished out 19 assists. Issel managed seven points in his last ever game. At age 36, he started four of Denver's five game in the series--his 22 points in their lone Game 2 win were the difference in the 22-point blowout.
The lone (left) white Converse All-Star sneaker from his farewell NBA game is signed on the instep side in 8-9/10 blue ballpoint pen with the date "5-22-85" inscribed. It comes in his size 15 and displays solid game wear with creasing an scuffing to the leather exterior. The 1971 ABA Rookie of the Year out of UK averaged 22.6 points and 9.1 rebounds with seven All-Star appearances when he hung them up. His legendary ABA run with the Kentucky Colonels carried over well into the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, earning him induction into the 1993 Naismith Hall of Fame class.
