Outside of throwing fastballs to opposing batters, one of the late Don Drysdale’s favorite pastimes was playing golf. “Big D’ played countless rounds of golf during and after his playing career ended and this lot features two of Drysdale’s heavily-used, circa 1980's signature model golf bags, one having a near complete set of clubs. First is a Wilson red and white leather bag that stands 34” tall and is relatively light weight for its time. It shows excessive wear and has “Don Drysdale” in large black script lettering stamped down the front. A silver “American Airlines Golf Classic” tag hangs at the top. Over the bottom zipper pouch is a tag from the famous Kapalua (Maui) Golf Course labeled “Don Drysdale” and “Craig Williamson, PGA Director of Golf.”

The second black leather bag is slightly taller at 36” and bulker for holding more clubs. It is stamped “DON DRYSDALE” in red and “MICHELOB” in white with their red logo on the front. “MICHELOB” appears on both sides as well, most likely indicating the beer company sponsored a tournament Drysdale participated in. This bag houses 12 clubs including: three MacGregor Tourney persimmon woods (driver, 3W & 4W) and three MacGregor Tourney irons (5, 8 & 9), four drivers of various brands, an Alien sand wedge by Pat Simmons, and a Z/I Alpha putter. All clubs show significant use, some more aged than others. In both bags, all straps, zippers and buckles are intact and functioning, and all pouches are empty. Both bags come directly from the Drysdale-Meyers family and are part of the Drysdale Collection.
