Johnny Podres is best remembered being named the MVP of the 1955 World Series, pitching a shutout in Game 7 against the New York Yankees, helping Brooklyn win its one and only title before moving to Los Angeles. Podres did go on to win another 3 World Series titles in 1959, 1963 and 1965. This lot is for Podres personal 1956 Sports Lodge B’NAI B’RITH Sterling Silver Platter award. Measuring 12” X 12,” it bears the engraved inscription “Sports Lodge B’NAI B’RITH - Fifth Annual Dinner- Hotel Biltmore, January 22, 1956 - To Johnny Podres For High Principle and Achievement In Sports”. Platter is in EX/MT condition with minimal signs of aging. Marking on reverse reads “Sterling- by Poole 100 Chippendale”.
