All droughts end with rain…and sometimes champagne. The cleansing washes away all of the curses and superstitions and improbable losses. The Chicago Cubs ended their drought. Fly the W! The Cubs are 2016 World Series champions!

The 2016 Fall Classic was the end of a long road. Generations of families and friends celebrated cherished memories newly washed by a championship. And it was, perhaps even the beginning of a new kind of journey for the Cubs and their fans. Owner Tom Ricketts and General Manager Theo Epstein collaborated to shape a staff and team that could pull off the most epic of championships. With a powerful combination of talent and grit, Manager Joe Maddon’s cast of Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Jake Arrieta, Dexter Fowler, Jon Lester and World Series MVP Ben Zobrist, the Cubs played better baseball than the Giants and Dodgers to set up a historically dramatic World Series against the Indians. Of course, it would come down to a Game 7 full of surprise, anxiety, and excitement. The Cubs would overcome a tenacious Indians comeback, using a mythical rain delay, inspirational speech, and an extra inning of baseball to crown a 103-win season with a World Series title.

It’s hard to imagine a more fitting commemoration of the Cubs storybook 2016 season than the item offered here, a massive Methusalah (6 litre) unopened bottle of Luc Belaire Champagne signed by the entire 2016 Chicago Cubs team. Standing around 22 inches tall, the Methuselah bottle of Luc Belaire holds about the equivalent of eight standard bottles of champagne and retails for over $600. The autographs on the bottle were obtained under the direction of Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood for the benefit of his charitable foundation. The Wood Family Foundation was founded by Kerry and Sarah Wood to provide mentoring services to impoverished children in troubled areas of Chicago.

The bottle has been consigned to this auction by friends of the Wood family who won it at The Wood Family Foundation fundraising gala. The signed bottle was the top prize of the evening. The bottle has been signed by 26 key members of the 2106 World Champion Chicago Cubs in silver sharpie including Kris Bryant, Ben Zobrist, Javier Baez, Jake Arietta, David Ross, Addison Russell and many more!.

NOTE: The bottle will be shipped to the winning bidder from its present location in Chicago. Due to its size and nature, buyer is responsible for appropriate freight charges. Pick-up is also an option.
