Chicago Cubs Manager Joe Maddon accomplished in 2016 what no Cubs manager since Frank Chance in 1908 was able to achieve: a World Series championship. In just his second year at the helm, Maddon was able to transform the Cubbies from lovable losers to competitive champions by posting a regular-season record of 103-58, which was followed by an historic run the to Fall Classic title that culminated in pulling out a tight, seven-game series versus the A.L. Champion Cleveland Indians.
This lot features Maddon's game-worn Chicago Cubs 1988 Throwback home uniform from a July 20, 2016, game against the visiting New York Mets in which the Cubbies pulled out a 6-2 victory.
The uniform from Maddon's victorious day shows minimal wear starting with the V-neck Majestic Authentic Collection blue-and-white pinstriped polyester jersey
(size 44) that includes proper manufacturer's tagging on the front left tail. An official MLB Authentication label appears below the Majestic tagging and includes hologram # JB 343670. The 1988 style Cubs logo patch appears across the left breast in red, white and blue tackle twill. An embroidered Cubbies patch appears on the left sleeve, just above the Majestic manufacturer's logo. The reverse features Maddon's uniform number "70" in blue tackle twill numerals (7 7/8" tall) sewn directly onto the back of the jersey, below the official MLB embroidered patch on the neckline. The accompanying pinstriped polyester pants include proper Majestic manufacturer's tagging on the inner left rear waistband: "#70 2016 35-40-35 OB." (Please note that the MLB session date for the pants (7/29) differs from game in which they were actually worn.) The blue elastic waistband still includes the original drawstring on the zippered pants. This photo-matched, game-worn uniform from the skipper who piloted such a historic season for the Chi-town faithful would make for a cherished keepsake in any self-respecting Cub fan's collection.
