On May 8, 2016, David Ortiz hit two home runs on Mother’s Day at Yankee Stadium and helped the Red Sox defeat their rivals, 5-1. Ortiz said after the game “Today is very special for all of us. I think I picked a very good day to hit two home runs, I know she’s in a place just watching me. It’s a special day.”
It was also special in that Ortiz moved into second place on the Red Sox career home list, passing the great Carl Yastrzemski and leaving him behind only Ted Williams. He did so with his first long ball in the 4th inning off Luis Severino, a tape-measure shot to right-center over the visiting bullpen. That put him at 453 in a Red Sox uniform. In the seventh, off the same young Yankees pitcher, Ortiz jacked another long solo shot into the right-field bleachers. Offered in this lot is the 1st base bag from that 5/8/16 game used innings 3 through 5, including Ortiz's milestone homer. The bag has a metal tag that reads “Boston vs. New York Yankees - Yankee Stadium 2016” and has been boldly signed by Big Papi in 9/10 black marker. The bag exhibits excellent game use with dirt and cleat marks.
