In 2014 the Kansas City Royals made the playoff for the first time since their World Championship 1985 season. They defeated the A's in the Wild Card game before sweeping the Angels in the ALDS and the Orioles in the ALCS, becoming the first team in MLB history to win their first eight postseason games. The took the San Francisco Giants to seven games in the Fall Classic, but ultimately lost a tight 3-2 contest in the deciding game thanks to the heroic efforts of Madison Bumgarner. 10K gold ring issued to former big-leaguer Milt Thompson, a Royals instructor since 2012 who served as their Wilmington (Single-A) hitting coach in 2014.
Crafted in 10-karat white gold, the ring boasts an interlocking design with the KC script logo in blue sapphire stone set with 34 round cut diamonds on the face atop a baseball diamond with four princess-cut
diamonds for the bases. 47 round cut pave-set diamonds provide a sparkling background on the face, surrounded on the perimeter with "AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS". The right shank features the A.L. logo in yellow gold, three round cut diamonds representing the team's third pennant, and the Royals script logo along with "2014." The left shank features "THOMPSON" atop a banner celebrating the historic 8-0 playoff run and the Royals crown logo in yellow and white gold set atop a custom-cut KC blue stone. Inside
the band is "Jostens 14K." The ring has a total of 92 diamonds (1.01 carats) and comes in size 12, weighs 54 grams total.
The ring itself is in
immaculate condition, having little sign of ever being worn by Milt
Thompson. It includes the original Jostens mahogany presentation box with a
glass top etched "Kansas City Royals 2014 American League Champions," also in perfect
shape. Original paperwork from the Royals including its official
appraisal ($10,583) is also included.
