The 2008 Philadelphia Phillies were loaded with talent and won the
franchise's first World Series since 1980's club with Mike Schmidt and
Steve Carlton. It was the city of Philadelphia's first pro sports title
in 25 years dating to the Dr. J-led 76ers in '83. Anchored by the core
threesome of Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard on the infield
and ace lefty Cole Hamels. the fabulous Phils won the N.L. East witha
record of 92-70 and knocked out Brewers (3-1) and Dodgers (4-1) to win
the pennant before defeating the Tampa Bay Rays (4-1) in the Fall
Classic. Presented here is a gorgeous 2008 World Series ring issued to
Phillies strength and conditioning coach, Wladimir Martinez.
The
maker, Masters of Design, goes into great detail to describe its
composition, symbolic design, and striking aesthetics. In their words,
the ring is 14 karat white gold and contains 103 diamonds totaling 3.84
karats. The 103 diamonds represent the team's 92 regular season and 11
postseason wins in 2008. The top of the ring is crowned with a ruby
inlay and the Phillies signature "P" inset with diamonds and sitting
upon a panel of pavé set bright cut diamonds. The title "World
Champions" is written along the ring's top and bottom outer rim also
bordered in diamonds. The left shank features "MARTINEZ" and "Phillies"
in script across Philadelphia's most identifiable landmark, the Liberty
Bell. The bell and clangor are inlaid with 11 diamonds for the team's
11 wins in the postseason. Crossed bats appear directly beneath the
bell. The right shank has "2008" with two diamond baguettes placed
within the zeros to signify the club's two championships. The
World Series trophy rising out of Citizens Bank Park is flanked by the opposing
team logos ("P" and "TB") with final score in games ("4-1") indicated. Inside the band is stamped "14K" to denote the white gold content.
The ring is a large size 12.5 and weighs 86 grams with a total of 3.84 carats of diamond. It shows no visible wear and presents majestically. It comes in its original pristine cherry wood presentation box etched "Philadelphia Phillies 2008 World Champions" on the glass top (light scratching on surface) with recipient's name on a white label at base, as well as the white cardboard box used to ship the ring
from the maker. Also included is an official 2010 appraisal of $10,500
for the precious metal and gemstone value alone as noted by the
appraiser (nothing added for its intrinsic value). A truly exceptional example for a Phillies collector or any baseball aficionado.
LOA from strength coach, Wladimir Martinez.
