Hall of Fame right-hander Pedro Martinez owned American League batters during the latter part of the 1990’s and into the new millennium. After landing in Beantown in 1998, and serving as the ace of the BoSox pitching staff, Martinez racked up consecutive records of 19-7, 23-4 and 18-6 in his first three seasons and never looked back. His pedigree only got stronger as he rolled toward the memorable 2004 campaign in which the Red Sox finally erased the "Curse of the Bambino" to win their first World Series title in 86 years!

This lot features Martinez’s signed and inscribed 2003 Boston Red Sox game-worn home jersey, a season in which he went 14-4 with an ERA of 2.22 and 206 K’s to his credit. The white Russell Athletic jersey includes proper tagging on the left front tail that includes strip tags reading [size] “46 100% POLYESTER” and “+2” EXTRA LENGTH.” A separate, sewn-on tag reading “2-2003” indicates the set number and season in question. Across the front of the jersey reads “RED SOX” in red tackle twill outlined in Navy blue, while Martinez’s uniform number “45” adorns the back of the jersey in similar tackle twill fashion. The official red, white and blue MLB embroidered patch is located on the outside rear collar and Martinez has signed the jersey just underneath that patch in black fine-point marker with the added inscription “C.Y. 97 99 00” to indicate those years in which he walked away with the Cy Young Award. The jersey shows light to moderate wear.

Lot includes letter of authenticity signed by major league pitcher Tim Redding. In 2003, Redding started 32 games for the Houston Astros. The Astros visited Boston from June 13 to 15, which is likely when this jersey was obtained directly from Pedro Martinez.
