This lot features a pristine 1995 Atlanta Braves road jersey game worn by Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux during his incredible fourth consecutive National League Cy Young Award winning season. It also happened to be a season that ended in a World Series title for the Braves! Maddux was nearly unbeatable during the 1995 season as he posted a 19-2 record with an unbelievable ERA of 1.63. He went 3-1 during the postseason in helping the Braves to their first World Championship since moving to Atlanta.
The front of the gray jersey features the classic Braves tomahawk logo in brilliant red, navy blue and yellow tackle twill. Navy blue-and-red piping runs around the neck, down the front and on the sleeves. On the back of the jersey is "MADDUX" in navy blue tackle twill on a gray nameplate and his number "31" in Braves red and navy blue sewn on the back. The special Braves "30th Season in Atlanta" patch is sewn on the left sleeve. Russell Athletic Diamond Collection size "44" and 100% POLYESTER labels are sewn on the jersey’s lower left front tail. The jersey exhibits light to moderate wear with noticeable fraying around the numbers and letters.
It should be noted that 1993-95 Maddux gamers came in two different cuts with noticeable discrepancies in the sleeve length and stitching design. This is the shorter sleeve cut with one solid stitching from the collar to the armpit. It matches the style he wore in the 1995 All-Star Game (image attached) and is more scarce to find in the hobby. An outstanding jersey from a Hall of Fame pitcher game worn during one of the greatest single-season pitching performances of modern MLB history!
