Baseball Hall of Famer Orlando “The Baby Bull” Cepeda had a season to remember in 1967. Not only did he lead the National League in runs batted in with 111, but batted .325 with 25 home runs and 37 doubles to his credit and was named N.L. MVP for his outstanding efforts. He also helped his team, the St. Louis Cardinals, win the N.L. pennant and then outlast the A.L. Champion Boston Red Sox in a most memorable Fall Classic, four games to three.
This lot features an impressive, engraved trophy that was awarded to Cepeda on Feb. 4, 1968, by the Post-Gazette Dapper Dan Club for “OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL IN 1967.” The nicely designed, silver-plated bowl measures six-and-a-half-inches tall and 12" in diameter, weighs just over three pounds and is made of Silverplate by the Webster Wilcox International Silver Co.
