Phil Masi was a catcher who played 14 years in the majors, the first 11 of which were spent with the Boston Braves before embarking on a three-year tenure with the Chicago White Sox. He was a career .264 batter who hit 47 home runs and knocked in 417 runs. This lot features Masi’s 1951 Chicago White Sox game-worn road jersey, which represented his second-to-last season in the bigs.

The aged gray flannel certainly shows its years with some minor discoloration in places and overall wear. Reading “CHICAGO” across the front in black lettering, the zipper-down jersey includes proper “MacGregor Goldsmith [size] 44” tagging on the inside rear collar which is positioned just above a white cloth tag reading “MASI 38” in red chain stitching. The zipper does not appear to be functional. On the inside right seam is a flag tag reading “SET 1 1950” hat indicates this jersey was issued the year before but still worn by Masi, who started with the White Sox in 1950. Masi’s uniform number “38” encompasses the back of the jersey via large black felt numbers. The left sleeve sports a special “American League 1901-1951 Golden Anniversary” patch that stretches five inches tall. Noticeable puckering is evident throughout.
