Comiskey Park was home to the Chicago White Sox from 1910-1990. The park was built in 1910 by then owner Charles Comiskey. In addition to hosting the infamous 1919 "Black Sox" series the stadium hosted three other World Series including one played by the Cubs due to lack of seating at Wrigley Field. In addition the park hosted the 1937 heavyweight title match in which Joe Louis defeated then champion James J. Braddock in eight rounds, and was also the site of the ill-fated "Disco Demolition Night" in 1979. The promotion saw 50,000 paid fans and another 20,000 unpaid fans storm and destroy the field causing the White Sox to forfeit the second game of the doubleheader.

Presented here is an original, free-standing stadium locker from Chicago's famed Comiskey Park.  The locker was received directly by John Hamilton, owner of the Newport Sports Museum, from the Chicago White Sox in trade for some important early White Sox ephemera. The green painted wood locker is comprised of two wooden sides, a top-front cross slat and a shelf that are secured to a wood floor section when assembled. The aforementioned pieces can be disassembled for transport.  The assembled locker measures 38” by 48” by 92”. The locker bears a vintage coat of green paint that has been scratched and worn in some areas to reveal an earlier, original coat of lighter green paint underneath. A metal nameplate holder (painted green) is affixed to top cross section and metal hooks that appear to be original are screwed the walls inside, will several having tips broken off. The locker is sturdy and functional, with unlimited potential for use and display, whether it be for personal or commercial purposes.

Accompanying the locker is an original wood and cast iron folding chair in early, original red paint that is aged and alligatored, and an original brick from Comiskey Park. Both of these items were obtained simultaneously with the locker from the White Sox organization.

NOTE: Due to the size and weight of this item, the buyer is responsible for appropriate transportation and freight charges which may be substantial. The combined weight of this lot is 245 lbs. Local pick-up recommended.
