Walter James Vincent Maranville, better known as "Rabbit" Maranville due to his speed and small stature (5'5", 155 pounds), was a big league shortstop who played in a record 23 seasons (1912 to 1935) for the Boston Braves of the National League, a mark that stood until it was broken in 1986 by Pete Rose. Offered here is a unique cut signature and handwritten note by Maranville in 1933 when he was also serving as team captain of the Braves. Apparently he enjoyed spending quality time in Jamaica and this oversized note describes his love of a particular spot he frequented often: "To many Happy & Joyous Evenings Spent Down in the Amen Room with the Fallons of Jamaica - Yours in Sport - Rabbit Maranville, Capt. Boston Braves 1933." The encapsulated note, written in thick blue ink, measures 8" wide by 5.5" high and remains in nice condition. Autograph graded Mint 9 by PSA/DNA.
