To most sports fans, the 1926 World Series looked like it would be an easy Yankees victory. With a line up that boasted Babe Ruth with his .372 average and 47 homers plus five future Hall of Famers, New York looked unstoppable. Unfortunately, the New York boys ran right into a scrappy Cardinals team that featured Frankie Frisch, 1926’s MVP catcher Bob O’Farrell and hit machine Rogers Hornsby. The series went the full seven games, the climax being when a supposedly hung over Pete Alexander came out of the bullpen to pitch two innings of relief that kept the Yankees bats at bay. In the bottom of the ninth with the Yanks down 3-2, Babe Ruth got on with a walk. Then, with two outs, The Babe made a poorly timed steal attempt and was thrown out by Bob O’Farrell for the third and last out of the Series.

This ball features many of the 1926 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals including Hall of Famers Bill McKechnie, Frankie Frisch, Chick Hafey and World Series hero Pete Alexander on the sweet spot. Other Cardinals include Taylor Outhit, Jake Flowers, Frank Snyder, Al Sothoron, Vic Keen and 1926’s NL MVP, Bob O’Farrell. Making this an extra-special World Series ball is the presence of Babe Ruth who of course made the final out of 1926 World Series. The 1926-1927 Reach Official American League Johnson ball has been coated with shellac and this has chipped away in places over the years. The signatures are in black fountain pen and range from a 2/10 to 5/10. A very early team ball from the Cardinals very first World Championship.
