The Colgan Gum Company of Louisville, Kentucky is responsible for these 1-1/2"-diameter circular "cards" that were issued over a three-year period beginning in 1909. This comprehensive edition which is second only to the massive multi-brand T206 release for player inclusion set forth 291 known subjects and variations. The thin-paper collectibles were inserted into five-cent Colgan's Chips candy tins offering the company product plus a black-and-white portrait of either a Major or Minor League player with a distinctive "Stars of the Diamond" advertisement on each reverse. The issue includes 23 possible Hall of Fame subjects.

Presented here is the premier PSA graded example from the issue of the key Ty Cobb. At the time of its production Ty Cobb was at the apex of his considerable powers. His American League-leading numbers in 1911 are staggering: .420 average, 248 hits, forty-seven doubles, twenty-four triples, 127 RBIs, eighty-three stolen bases! This astonishing example has a remarkably pristine appearance, free from the chipping and dings to the fragile stock that often resulted from extricating these discs from their tin enclosures.

Graded PSA Mint 9, this is the only example to grade "Mint" by PSA with none higher.
