In 1970, 24-year-old journeyman infielder Bill Sudakis was splitting time between catcher (38 games) and third base (37) for the always competitive Los Angeles Dodgers. This campaign would mark the third of four seasons for Sudakis in L.A. and his second-best at the plate: .264 batting average with 71 hits including 14 home runs and 44 runs batted in. His efforts helped the Dodgers secure a second-place (87-74) finish in the National League West Division standings.

This lot features Sudakis's 1970 game-worn Los Angeles Dodgers home jersey. The impeccably preserved white flannel boasts proper "SPALDING" tagging (size 44) on the rear inside collar as well as blue chain-stitching on the left front tail reading "Sudakis 44 70" to indicate the player, jersey size and season in question. Further, a washing instructions tag exists on the left front tail and includes a sewn-on flag tag reading "SET 1 #8P 1970." The jersey features "Dodgers" embroidered across the chest in script blue lettering and Sudakis's uniform number "16" in red felt numerals on the left front breast that stretch five inches tall. On the jersey's reverse, Sudakis's number "16" can be found in blue felt numbers stretching seven inches tall. Either arm pit area sports four manufactured air holes. The jersey shows moderate use with six of the original seven buttons intact and one replacement button.

Part of the esteemed Delbert Mickel estate collection.
