Willie Davis, an All-City athlete in several sports at Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights (Los Angeles) in the late 1950s, became one of the Dodgers' early stars after the team moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn in 1958. Known for his offense, Davis played center field for the Dodgers for 13 seasons starting in 1961. He hit in a team record 31 consecutive games in 1969 and batted .305 or better three years straight in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1967, Davis played in 143 games for the Blue Crew and collected 146 hits including 27 doubles.
This lot features Davis's 1967 game-worn Los Angeles Dodgers road jersey. The incredibly preserved gray flannel boasts proper "Rawlings" tagging (size 42) on the left front tail, positioned just above blue chain-stitching reading "Davis 67" to indicate the player and season in question. Further, a washing instructions tag exists on the same front tail and includes a sewn-on flag tag reading "SET 1 1967." The jersey features "Dodgers" embroidered across the chest in blue script lettering and Davis's uniform number "3" in original red felt measuring 4.5” tall on the left front breast. On the jersey's reverse, Allen's number "3" can be found in in blue felt stretching seven inches tall. Either arm pit area sports four manufactured air holes. The jersey shows moderate use with all seven of its original buttons remaining intact.
