Curt Flood, the major leaguer most responsible for creating free agency, was himself a center fielder who played the majority of his MLB career with the St. Louis Cardinals (1958 to 1969). A career .293 batter, Flood collected 1,861 during the course of his 15-year career including 85 home runs, 44 triples and 271 doubles. He also earned two World Series rings (1964 and ’67). This lot features a St. Cardinals game-worn baseball cap attributed to Curt Flood. The navy blue New Era cap, which is approximately size 7 although it’s difficult to read, shows outstanding wear and tear and includes the “STL” logo embroidered on the front in red and outlined in white. The underside of the cap’s brim has Flood’s uniform number “21” written twice, once in blue ink and once more in slightly thicker blue marker. The brown leather sweat band lining the inside of the cap includes “FLOOD” written in blue ink.

Part of the esteemed Delbert Mickel estate collection.
