In 1964, Albie Pearson was competing in his fourth season for the then-Los Angeles Angels. The former 1958 American League Rookie of the Year for the Washington Senators, Pearson was coming off a successful 176-hit, .308 campaign in 1963 but wound up playing in only 107 games for the Halos in '64 and recorded just 59 base knocks. Standing just 5' 5" and weighing 140 pounds soaking wet, Pearson was not known for his power, but was known for making contact at the plate. An outfielder, he also had a good glove, making 132 putouts in 136 chances in '64, good enough for a .978 fielding percentage. This lot features the diminutive Pearson's 1964 L.A. Angels game-worn home jersey.

The white jersey shows considerable game use and includes proper Rawlings manufacturer's (size 38) tagging on the inside rear collar. The red-and-blue piping around the collar is well worn and is missing a one-inch portion. The left front tail includes black chain-stitching that reads: "Pearson 38 64" to reflect the player's name, jersey size and season. Across the front of the jersey it reads "ANGELS" in sewn-on, three-inch-tall red felt lettering outlined in navy blue. The reverse of the jersey boasts Pearson's uniform number "28" centered in seven-inch tall red felt numerals outlined in blue. Both arm pit areas sport four manufactured air holes and all seven original buttons still exist down the front of the jersey. Pearson has signed the jersey's right front tail in black marker and added the inscription: "L.A. Angels 1964."

Part of the esteemed Delbert Mickel estate collection. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
