The 1937 MLB season marked the New York Yankees 35th campaign. The team finished with a record of 102–52, winning their ninth pennant by finishing 13 games ahead of the runner-up Detroit Tigers. The Yankees were managed by Joe McCarthy and in the World Series, they beat the New York Giants three games to two. This title also gave the Yankees a 3-to-2 edge in overall series play against the Giants.
This lot features an Official American League (Harridge) Reach baseball has been signed by 19 players including Lou Gehrig on the sweet spot, Tony Lazzeri, Bill Dickey, Monte Pearson, Myril Hoag, Joe Vance, Jack Salzgaver, Johnny Murphy and Kemp Winker. Period fountain pen signatures rate 1/2 to 5 to 5/6 out of 10 with a portion having severely faded (including some of those mentioned). Among the stronger is Gehrig (4-5) near the sweet spot. The Joe DiMaggio and Joe McCarthy signatures have been deemed Clubhouse by PSA/DNA.
