Baseball Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk played for two different teams during his illustrious career: the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox. The second half of his 24-year career was spent competing for the Chisox from 1981 to 1993. When he became a member of the White Sox, he changed his uniform number from 27 to 72. This lot features Fisk’s 1989 Chicago White Sox game-worn road jersey upon which he has signed and inscribed it in blue marker “Carlton ‘Pudge’ Fisk Best Wishes 72 1989.” That season Fisk batted .293 after collecting 110 hits including 13 home runs and driving in 68 runs. The size 48 button-down jersey is emblazoned with “Chicago” across the front in navy blue script tackle twill outlined in red. It includes on the inside left front tail the proper Rawling’s manufacturer’s tag alongside two strip tags, one reading “T” and the other one calling out “Set 1 1989.” The back of the jersey boasts Fisk’s trademark uniform number “72” in eight-inch-tall navy blue tackle twill outlined in red. The jersey shows game usage and includes fraying around the letters and numbers throughout.

Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

PROVENANCE: Baltimore Orioles Clubhouse Collection - This is one of a collection of 12 jerseys in this auction that originate directly from the collection of a gentleman who served as the Baltimore Orioles visiting team clubhouse attendant in his youth in the early 1980’s. A dream job for any baseball loving kid, his position enabled him to serve and befriend many of the great stars of the era that passed through Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium. He was also a well-liked “gofer” for many of his hometown heroes such as Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken and Brooks Robinson. All of the game worn jerseys presented here were given to him personally by the players they represent and autographed for him personally. Prior to their offering here, these jerseys have remained in his sole possession. Needless to say, they are ideal specimens with regard to originality, usage attributes and provenance.
