ADDENDUM: PSA/DNA has dated this bat from the 1919-22 period and assigned a grade of GU 8.

George Sisler was the greatest St. Louis Brown of them all and during his 15 year career, rivaled Rogers Hornsby as baseball's premier hitter. Like Babe Ruth, he came to the majors as a lefthanded pitcher. Like Ruth, his hitting was too phenomenal to be restricted to a pitcher's schedule. Although his career ended in 1930, from 1920 until 2004, Sisler held the MLB record for most hits in a single season. The labeling period of the offered bat coincides with the 1922 season, during which Sisler batted .420, hit safely in a then-record 41 consecutive games, led the American League in hits (246), stolen bases (51), triples (18), and was probably the best fielding first baseman in the game. Sister's 1922 campaign is considered by many historians to be among the best individual all-around single-season performances in baseball history. The Baseball Hall of Fame elected Sisler among their inaugural inductees in 1939.

George Sisler game used bats are extremely rare. Presented here is Sisler's Hillerich & Bradsby professional model bat dating from the 1919-22 period. Sisler’s last name appears in block letters on the barrel. It shows evidence of excellent use and remains uncracked. Measuring 36-1/8 inches and weighing a hefty 40.1 ounces, it shows many ball marks and cleat marks throughout. The wood grain pattern, markings and finish are of the highest quality and the bat retains outstanding display quality. Fans and sports writers reaffirmed Sisler's legacy in 1999, when Sisler received the 8th most votes of any first baseman in a poll for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team.

Includes a LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (graded GU8).
