Here’s your chance to bid on special pair of Converse "Triple Double" sneakers game-worn by the great Ervin "Magic" Johnson during the 1990-91 season. Magic gifted these shoes to a Madison Square Garden security guard he befriended over the course of many road games against the New York Knicks during his career. Photos show Magic wearing this "Magic" signature model style from the beginning of the season all the way through the NBA Finals where the Lakers fell to the Chicago Bulls. The Lakers made their only visit to MSG on December 18, 1990, so it is probable that these are the shoes he wore in that game, a 100-97 victory for the Showtime Lakers as Magic scored 22 points and dished out 11 assists. The model name Converse gave these shoes was fitting for Magic as he almost averaged a triple double for the season with 19.4 points, 12.5 assists and 7.0 rebounds per game. 1990-91 would be Magic's last full season in the NBA as he was diagnosed with HIV during the off-season, forcing the Laker legend into an early retirement that he would only briefly return from in 1996.

The white and purple Converse mid-high tops show light to moderate wear throughout. The leather exterior is very well-preseved with hardly any scuffing or marks. The thick rubber insoles remain intact as do the original laces. The outsoles show heel drag and tread consistent with good court use. The Lakers color design features "Magic" stamped six times on each shoe including the tongue, inner and outer ankles, and even the very bottom. The left shoe has a size 14 flag tag that also reads "SAMPLE" and 'MADE IN KOREA". A performance message from Converse is printed under the tongue. Magic has autographed the right shoe on the heel in almost perfect 9-10/10 black marker with his No. "32" inscribed. The lucky security guard got to know many former Knicks and opposing players, including Magic, Dr. J and Michael Jordan on a personal level during their many visits to MSG in the 1980's and 90's. We have featured MJ, Magic and 1980's Dr. J game worn pairs in previous auctions from the same source, and he is still employed there to this day.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the MSG security guard. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
