The 1949 MLB All-Star Game was the 16th annual midseason exhibition game between the all-stars of the American and National leagues. The A.L., managed by Cleveland Indians’ skipper Lou Boudreau, continued its early dominance of the Midsummer Classic with an 11–7 win at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn. The win moved the Junior Circuit’s all-time record in the game to 12–4. The game itself was significant in that it was the first to have African-American players in the line-up. Jackie Robinson started for the National League at second base. Robinson's Brooklyn Dodgers’ teammates, catcher Roy Campanella and pitcher Don Newcombe also played for the N.L. The Cleveland Indians' Larry Doby, meanwhile, was a late-inning replacement for Joe DiMaggio in center field for the American League.

This lot features a 1949 American League All-Star team-signed OAL (Harridge) baseball that boasts 32 signatures including several from Hall of Famers. The sweet spot is occupied by Hall of Fame Manager Boudreau, while other notable autographs include fellow Cooperstown inductees Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Larry Doby, Joe Gordon and Bob Lemon. Other remaining signatures include starting pitcher Mel Parnell, winning pitcher Virgil trucks, Dom DiMaggio, Eddie Robinson, Bob Dillinger and Al Kellner. Though some fading exists of some signatures, the toned baseball still boasts clarity and legibility for most of the autographs.
