In 1957, the New York Yankees, managed by the great Casey Stengel, won their 23rd American League pennant by posting a regular-season record of 98–56 to finish eight games ahead of the Chicago White Sox. The team’s top home run hitters were Mickey Mantle with 34 and Yogi Berra with 24. The Yankees top hurler that season was Tom Sturdivant who posted a record of 16-6. In the World Series, however, the Yankees were defeated by a stubborn Milwaukee Braves team four games to three. New York lost the crucial seventh game at Yankee Stadium, 5-0, to Braves’ starter Lew Burdette, who was selected the World Series MVP based on the fact that he recorded three victories in the Fall Classic.

This lot features a 1957 New York Yankees American league Champion team-signed Official American League (Harridge) baseball. The toned sphere boasts 28 signatures in blue although the sweet spot signature of Stengel has been deemed of the clubhouse variety. Nevertheless the 27 other signatures are authentic and include Hall of Famers Mantle, Berra, Whitey Ford and Enos Slaughter. Other notable signatures include Don Larsen, Bobby Richardson, Elston Howard, Sal Maglie, Hank Bauer, Bill Skowron, Tony Kubek, Bob Turley and Art Ditmar.

Full LOA from PSA/DNA (AA08158) with EX-MT 6.5 overall grade (8 for autographs and 5 for ball).
