The late Junior Seau was an All-America linebacker for the USC Trojans before he embarked on his Hall of Fame career in the NFL. In his second season at USC, the year before he was drafted No. 5 overall by the San Diego Chargers, he turned in another head-turning performance registering 72 tackles and recording a phenomenal 19 sacks! For his outstanding defensive efforts, Seau was named USC’s “Defensive Player of the Year.” This lot features the trophy that was awarded to Seau, a 14-inch tall award that boasts a 10-inch solid pewter football player on top of a wooden base with an engraved red nameplate that calls out Seau’s honor: “University of Southern California, Defensive Player of the Year, Junior Seau, 1989.” The trophy was sourced from Seau's Restaurant in San Diego, which closed a few weeks after his death in 2012.
