Presented here is an amazing football antique from the early days of gridiron, a gorgeous Elgin pocket watch given Frederick "Fritz" Roeseler who played for the Racine Legion of the National Football League. Roeseler played right end for the Legion during all four seasons of the team's short tenure in the NFL from 1922-24 and 1926. In 1924, Racine had 4 wins, 3 losses, and 3 ties to finish in 7th place. The back of the gold-plated pocket watch is inscribed "FRED C. ROESELER HORLICK-LEGION TEAM RACINE 1924". The Legion played their home games at Horlick Field in Racine, Wisconsin. The atch looks to be in very fine condition and runs perfectly when wound. This is certainly a piece you won't find in your local antique shop. It belongs in a football museum for sure.
