Here we have two items from popular Los Angeles Kings center Bernie Nicholls: his 1986-87 game-worn road helmet and autographed game-used stick. Nicholls scored 33 goals and had 48 assists during the '86-87 season. In his nine seasons with the Kings, he tallied 327 goals with 431 assists, a total of 758 points in 602 games. In 1988-89 as a teammate of Wayne Gretzky, he had a career-high 150 points (70 goals and 80 assists).
The wooden Victoriaville Ultra Vic game used stick has "B.NICHOLLS" stamped on the upper shaft with his No. "9" marked in black further up the handle. On the side in 6-7/10 blue pen is "To Johnny Best Wishes Bernie Nicholls"--a personal inscription to his friend John Hamilton, founder of the Newport Sports Museum. The blade is wrapped with black tape. The top of the handle and knob have a white tape job that has aged to yellow. The purple road CCM helmet has white "9" decal applied to back. The original chin strap is intact. The interior padding has hardened from sweat, use and age. Both the stick and the helmet exhibit excellent game use. Two great pieces from one of the Kings most popular players of his day.
Includes copy of a 1/31/1991 letter from Los Angeles Kings trainer Pete Demers, who sent the Newport Sports Museum several game-used items for display. Includes a letter of provenance from the museum as well. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
