On June 28, 2014, New York Yankees right-handed rookie pitcher Masahiro Tanaka took on the visiting Boston Red Sox and pitched a gem. Unfortunately for Tanaka, who pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts, he came out on the short end of a 2-1 decision. He was the victim of two solo home runs, the second of which came off the bat of Boston first baseman Mike Napoli in the top of the ninth inning that turned out to be the decisive blow. This lot features a game-used and Tanaka-autographed OML (Selig) baseball from that game. The baseball shows outstanding game use and comes with nearly every imaginable form of MLB authentication. Tanaka, who posted a 13-5 record for the season, signed the baseball in blue ink on the sweet spot and added his jersey number “19.”
