In 2004, Seattle Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki turned in a season for the ages. After bursting upon the MLB season at age 27 in 2001 – a season in which he won both the Rookie of the Year and American League MVP awards – Ichiro turned the baseball world on its head in 2004 by batting .372 and registering the single highest number of hits (262) ever recorded in a single season. His final tally broke the previous record (257) which was set by Hall of Famer George Sisler in 1920. This lot features Suzuki’s 2004 Seattle Mariners game-worn road jersey from that record-breaking season. Visible on the size 48 jersey’s left front tail is the Russell Athletic manufacturer’s label attached to which is a fabric flag tag (“100% Polyester 48”) and a year tag (“2004”). Stretched across the front of the button-down jersey is “SEATLLE” in blue tackle twill letters outlined in aqua and white. On the back of the jersey is “ICHIRO” in blue tackle twill outlined in aqua which has been sewn in an arched formation directly to a gray nameplate. His uniform number “51” is positioned just south of his name in eight-inch-tall blue tackle twill numbers outlined in aqua. The Seattle Mariners embroidered team patch is sewn directly onto the left sleeve, right above a blue “R” for Russell Athletic. Incredible piece of game-worn memorabilia from a season that rewrite the MLB record books.
