During the 1970s, Muhammad Ali made headlines for staging his prizefights in Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. But before taking his punching power to such distant lands, Ali first tried his hand at attracting international audiences in Europe. He fought three bouts in London between 1963 and 1966, then shifted his attention to Germany. On September 10, 1966, Ali squared-off against Karl Mildenberger in Frankfurt's Waldstadion venue. It was a hard-fought battle that ended in a 12th round KO in Ali's favor. This eye-catching, on-site poster is an exceedingly rare relic from that historic bout. Written entirely in German, the poster measures 23-1/4" x 33" and features black-and-white images of both Ali (with the legend of "vormals Cassius Clay") and Mildenberger. Condition is VG due to light creasing throughout, small border tears and a few small areas of staining. Would easily present at EX level if linen backed and/or framed.
