In 1996, Baltimore Orioles pitching ace Mike “Moose” Mussina posted a record of 19-11 with 204 K’s to his credit and finished fifth in the American League Cy Young Award voting. This is Mussina’s game-worn home jersey from that campaign. On the front left tail of the white 100% nylon jersey is a “RUSSELL ATHLETIC” size “44” manufacturer’s tag with washing instructions. Attached is a “100% POLYESTER” flag tag and adjacent to that is a “1996” year tag. Across the chest reads, “Orioles” in black script tackle twill outlined in orange. His uniform number “35” appears just below the team name to the right in orange tackle twill outlined in black. His number “35” appears on the back in larger (eight inch) black tackle twill numbers outlined in orange. Across the shoulders reads his last name – “MUSSINA” – on a white nameplate. The lettering is done in black on orange tackle twill. On the right sleeve is an embroidered Russell Athletic “R” logo and on the left sleeve is Baltimore’s trademark “Orioles” logo patch. This jersey is properly tagged, shows light game use, but commemorates yet another stellar season for the hard-throwing right-hander.
