The recently retired New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter never played a season in which he didn’t excel. In both 2008 and ’09, the perennial All-Star shortstop turned in .300 and .334 batting campaigns, respectively, to help the Yankees stay on track and even notch the team’s 27th World Series championship in ’09. In the field, he played near flawless ball by recording .979 and .986 fielding percentages back to back for the two seasons.

This lot features a game-worn fielder’s mitt that Jeter used during those two stellar seasons. The offered black Rawlings “PRODJ2 11 ½ INCH” professional model series mitt shows minor wear and tear as is evidenced by the partially worn away “Turn 2” logo on the palm, which recognizes Jeter’s foundation whose mission it is to create and support signature programs and activities that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and "TURN 2" healthy lifestyles. The mitt is constructed out of deer-tanned cowhide and features basket webbing with brown lacing throughout. The glove includes “Derek Jeter” embroidered in white script on the outside of the left thumb area. The attached images are style matches to this same model he used in 2008 & '09 (including Getty 88954155). This is a remarkable piece of game-used sports memorabilia worn during two memorable seasons by a future first-ballot inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
