On June 9, 2009, Stephen Strasburg was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the Washington Nationals. On August 17, 2009, he signed a record-breaking four-year, $15.1 million contract with the Nationals, just 77 seconds before the deadline, shattering a dollar-amount record previously held by Mark Prior, who signed with the Chicago Cubs for $10.5 million in 2001. Strasburg made his MLB debut on June 8, 2010, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He picked up the win after pitching seven strong innings, allowing two earned runs and no walks and 14 strikeouts, which set a new team strikeout record for the Nationals.
This lot features Strasburg’s 2010 Washington Nationals rookie season game-worn jersey. The 100% polyester Authentic Collection Majestic jersey reads “NATIONALS” across the front in glittering gold-and-red tackle twill outlined in black. His jersey number “37” is positioned in similar tackle twill fashion on the left breast. The left front tail includes the proper Majestic manufacturer’s tagging along with a size 52 tag. The Majestic “COOL BASE” strip tag is found on the left seam. The back of the jersey features Strasburg’s “37” in large, eight-inch tall numbers in glittering gold-and-red tackle twill outlined in black. His last name – “STRASBURG” – appears in red tackle twill outlined in black arched across the shoulders. The Nationals’ “DC” logo appears on the left sleeve in similar tackle twill fashion. The official MLB logo patch appears on the outside of the rear collar. The jersey displays beautifully; only some minor fraying appears on the letters and numbers.
Includes LOA dated 11/17/2010 from Juan Iglesias, President of Iglesias Sports Management, who represented Strasburg's teammate Livan Hernandez at that time. Also includes LOA from Rob Steinmetz of Authentic Gamers, Inc.
