The late Godfrey Myles was a former linebacker who spent all six of his NFL seasons making tackles for the Dallas Cowboys (1991-1996). Selected by the Cowboys in the third round (62nd overall) of the 1991 NFL Draft, he missed most of his rookie season with a shoulder injury. In 1992, he was Ken Norton's backup at middle linebacker but still made 21 tackles and one INT. He was the starter at outside linebacker late that season in Super Bowl XXVII but suffered a freak injury when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a touchdown celebration. The recovery process took him until Week 9 of the 1993 NFL season to return and it has been speculated that he was never the same player after the injury. Nevertheless, he recorded 17 tackles that year and helped Dallas win its second (back-to-back) Lombardi Trophy in as many years. In fact, during his six-season tenure with Dallas, the Cowboys won three Super Bowls (XXVII, XXVIII and XXX).
This lot features Myles’ second of three Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Championship rings he earned during his NFL career. In Super Bowl XXVIII, under the guidance of head coach Jimmy Johnson, the Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills for the second year in a row, this time by the score of 30-13. The 10K gold beauty is loaded with a sea of diamonds across the face with “DALLAS COWBOYS” in raised lettering around the top. The size 12 ¾ Balfour 10k ring shows some wear as Myles probably wore this out on occasion. It weighs a whopping 60 grams. On top of all that, there are a total of 40 diamonds on the face of the ring. There are four (4) marque diamonds that measure in at 2.25 carats; twenty-four (24) 2mm diamonds at .75 and twelve (12) 1.5mm diamonds at .25 for a whopping 3.25 total carats of diamonds! One shank spells out “MYLES” on top of the NFL logo and his uniform number “98.” The other shank reads: “WORLD CHAMPIONS Back to Back” with two Lombardi Trophies in the mix and the Super Bowl XXXVIII logo showing. The ring comes inside its original Balfour box.
