In 1986, the New York Mets pulled off a miraculous comeback against the Boston Red Sox in Game 6 of the World Series and went on to win the Fall Classic in seven games that year. The championship marked only the second title for the Mets, who just last year battled all the way back to the big dance only to lose to the Kansas City Royals. This lot features a 1986 New York Mets World Series Championship 10 karat gold ring issued to the wife of former Mets General Manager Bob Scheffing, who served in that capacity from 1970-74 after a long career as a player, manager and scout. The Balfour ring comes in a size 9 boasting a beautiful central diamond seated on a blue stone with a diamond-studded border surrounded by raised lettering reading: “1986 WORLD CHAMPIONS.” Raised-relief shank designs feature the team’s "25th Anniversary" logo on one side and the World Series Championship Trophy, the Mets logo, and “SCHEFFING” on the other. Inside the band is stamped "LGB 10K". Ring appears to be in Near Mint condition.
Includes Letter of Provenance from Bob Scheffing’s son.
