In celebration of Super Bowl XX in January of 1986, sports artist Bernie Fuchs illustrated an impressive artist’s rendering of each of the Most Valuable Players from the previous 19 Super Bowls. With Bart Starr (SB I & II), Terry Bradshaw (XIII & XIV) and Joe Montana (XVI & XIX) each being named the MVP of multiple Super Bowls to that point and both Harvey Martin and Randy White earning co-MVP winners from Super Bowl XII, there were a total of 17 different players earning MVP status from the first 19 Super Bowls. This lot features a beautifully framed and mounted “Super Bowl XX” lithograph showing those 17 players positioned inside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the site of the very first two Super Bowls. All 17 players, plus the artist, has signed the limited edition (#9/55) NFL print in gold fine point marker. In addition to the aforementioned names, other notable signatures include Joe Namath, Len Dawson, Chuck Howley, Roger Staubach, Jake Scott, Larry Csonka, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, Fred Biletnikoff, Jim Plunkett, John Riggins and Marcus Allen. Its overall measurements are 36” wide by 33” high.
In addition, the lot features a framed limited edition (#51/300) lithograph entitled “Silver Anniversary Super Bowl All-Time Team” that shows the famous Vince Lombardi amongst a crowd of standout players earning the distinction. Signed in pencil by the artist, Cliff Spohn, the print showcases 26 NFL legends including offensive stars like Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Ronnie Lott, Lynn Swann, Franco Harris and Larry Csonka, along with defensive stalwarts such as Mean Joe Greene, Randy White, Jack Lambert, Mel Blount and Mike Singletary. All 26 players featured as well as Coach Lombardi are positioned with their facsimile signatures showing in black beneath the montage.
