In 2001, the American League Champion New York Yankees were attempting to win their fourth consecutive World Series when they locked horns with the National League Champion Arizona Diamondbacks. The teams battled to a seventh and deciding game, which the D-Backs won in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the ninth inning, 3-2.

Derek Jeter, the captain of the Yankees at that time, played valiantly in defeat. In the final game of the series, No. 2 went 1-for-4 and scored a run. The heart-breaking loss in Game 7 at Bank One Ballpark marked the first World Series match-up in five trips by Jeter and his teammates in which the Bronx Bombers came up on the short end of the stick. This lot features Jeter’s actual Game 7-worn Nike #2 wristband from that memorable Fall Classic. The blue wristband shows plenty of wear and was actually acquired by an Associated Press reporter in the Yankees clubhouse after the Game 7 defeat.

Includes notarized Letter of Provenance documenting its acquisition from an Associated Press Reporter who picked it up in the visitor's clubhouse at Bank One Ballpark after the game.
